Weighing just over three pounds1, the LifeBook P7120 notebook is the smallest and lightest full-featured notebook with a built-in, but removable media bay for an optical drive or extra battery delivering up to 11 hours2 of computing time. Battery life is also extended with the Fujitsu ECO button, a proprietary power-saving mode that with a single press allows users to reduce power consumption for components, including disabling the optical disk drive or reducing the display brightness.

Powered by an Intel® Pentium® M Processor Ultra Low Voltage 753 (1.20 GHz) and Intel 915GMS chipset, the LifeBook P7120 notebook delivers optimal computing power. With a Crystal View XGA TFT display for indoor as well as casual outdoor viewing, the LifeBook P7120 notebook delivers brilliant colors and crisper images for enjoyable movie viewing and multimedia presentations.

The LifeBook P7120 notebook delivers the performance and reliability mobile users expect from Fujitsu, recently rated tops for reliability among Microsoft Windows-based notebooks in PC Magazine’s 18th annual Reader Satisfaction Survey.

With the Trusted Platform Module (TPM), a combination of an integrated security chip with sophisticated data encryption software and built-in biometric fingerprint swipe sensors included as standard features, the LifeBook P7120 notebook offers safeguards to prevent unauthorized data access.

Incomparable combination of style and technology. The LIFEBOOK P Series’ light and elegant design makes it particularly appealing to those who want to travel with light and stylish notebooks. Either you choose the world’s lightest convertible LIFEBOOK P1510 or one of the lightest full functional professional notebooks with
a brilliant widescreen display, the LIFEBOOK P7120. Good to know, that the mobile working day will be somewhat more attractive and flexible with less weight and high performance - and therefore with a greater mobility.

The P7120 performs in line with the ultra-low-voltage processor it uses, a 1.2-GHz Pentium M ULV 753. With 512MB of RAM, it earned a WorldBench 5 score of 60, which is the slowest speed among current ultraportables we’ve tested. I wouldn’t rely on any low-voltage ultraportable, including this one, for heavy-duty work or multimedia, as such systems are still about 30 percent slower than a standard notebook equipped with a top-of-the-line, full-voltage Pentium M chip.

The P7120 barely tips the scales; at 3.1 pounds, it’s even lighter than its predecessor, the 3.3-pound P7010D. At 10.1″ by 7.8″ by 1.1″, the notebook is small enough to slip into an oversized coat pocket. The unit is draped in magnesium alloy and comes in all black for now, but Fujitsu will introduce several other colors (red, green, and white, for example) this month. The 10.6-inch widescreen TFT display is ideal for multimedia use, and fine for reading e-mails and Microsoft Word documents.

Fujitsu has released another refresh to their popular ultra portable P series of notebooks. While the last update was largely chipset based, the LifeBook P7120 offers up an entirely new body design and several other updates like integrated Bluetooth, no CPU fan and support for a docking station. The end result is a well-built machine that’s definitely worthy of consideration by ultra portable shoppers.

The LifeBook P7120’s classy black-and-gray case will look sleek on any tray table. As with other ultraportables, the LifeBook P7120’s keyboard is considerably smaller than full size, though it’s not uncomfortable, even for extensive bouts of typing. And in an improvement over the P7010, the P7120’s punctuation keys are the same size as its letter keys. Its 2.5-inch (diagonal) touch pad and accompanying mouse buttons are also petite, forcing you to adopt a slightly cramped hand position–but, again, this is par for the course with almost any laptop this size. A fingerprint reader between the mouse buttons doubles as a scrolling device. Above the keyboard, you’ll find a wireless on/off switch and an Eco button that adjusts display and drive settings for maximum battery life.

The P7120’s choppy gameplay in Far Cry and low 3DMark03 score of 781 are to be expected, but a middling mark of 157 in MobileMark 2005 is a concern (13 points lower than Sony’s similarly configured ultraportable). Photoshop was noticeably sluggish when we tried to rotate a 5-MP image. A 4,200-rpm hard drive doesn’t help matters, as applications were a bit slow to load.

This ultraportable’s battery life is superb. Fitted with a six-cell high-capacity battery, the P7120 lasted 6.5 hours with the 802.11a/b/g radio switched off. That runtime dropped by more than an hour with Wi-Fi turned on, so be sure to flick that switch when you don’t need to be online.
