Want to listen to your favorite music as you move about the house, but your music collection is on your PC in another room and out of reach? The Logitech Wireless DJ Music System is made up of three elements. The transmitter that plugs via a USB socket into your PC, the receiver that connects to your hi-fi and then the linchpin of the set up, a Wireless DJ remote, which features a sleek iPod-like design with a blue-lit LCD.

Once connected to either iTunes, Windows Media Player, and MusicMatch Jukebox on the PC (it doesn’t work with Apple Macs at the moment) the display on the remote shows the entire audio content on the PC, as well as playlists, and also features a DJ List that lets people create playlists on the fly by queuing songs.

The feather-light Wireless DJ remote has a bright LCD that allows you to perform two main tasks: play songs stored on your PC and create playlists. The real advantage of the DJ, though, is that you can quickly adjust songs in the playlist. For example, if you create a playlist of reggae classics, you can quickly insert new songs without stopping the music. Higher-end network music players such as the Sonos Digital Music System let you customize playlists but not quite as easily.

Streaming music from your PC to your stereo should be all pleasure and no pain, which is why we like the Logitech Wireless DJ Music System. This light and portable unit comes with a flashy but intuitive remote for navigating your music collection. Most importantly, the DJ plays protected music tracks downloaded from Real Rhapsody, Yahoo Unlimited, and even Apple iTunes without ever skipping a beat. For those who can live with limited range, this is one of the best music streamers on the market.

The Wireless DJ consists of three major parts: a USB transmitter that plugs into your PC, a receiver/charging cradle that plugs into your home stereo (via the included RCA cables) and is powered by an AC adapter, and a handheld remote with a built-in rechargeable battery. The system uses adaptive frequency-hopping to avoid interference, but Logitech recommends placing the receiver and transmitter as far as possible from potential sources of 2.4-GHz interference (including Wi-Fi components, cordless phones, Bluetooth devices, and microwave ovens) to maximize the effective range.
