ThinkPad T Series is the perfect balance of performance and portability. Designed for highly mobile users, these notebooks deliver outstanding functionality and long battery life in an easily portable, thin and light design. Select models are Microsoft Windows Vista Capable with Intel Core 2 Duo processors and feature new ThinkPad 11n Multiple Input/Multiple Output (MIMO) wireless technology that delivers greater levels of mobile performance, reliability, and manageabilty.

Starting at only 5.1 pounds, the ThinkPad T60 widescreen is the lightest 15.4-inch widescreen notebook among the top five PC vendors and continues the T Series’ heritage of innovation and performance.

Widescreen PCs are increasingly becoming popular choices for users. According to Gartner, Inc., “numerous technology transitions during 2006, including widescreen format options, have become more prevalent along with higher resolution.”

The ThinkPad T60 widescreen also packs in performance, offering customers wireless connectivity options including integrated 3G WWAN on Cingular or Verizon networks, an embedded WLAN card based on 802.11n technology, Bluetooth Wireless Technology and Infrared. The ThinkPad T60 widescreen notebook comes loaded with Access Connections, a ThinkVantage Technology that helps users easily connect to the Internet through their service provider as they switch between wired and wireless networks.

The ThinkVantage Productivity Center is a special user-support feature that can help you keep your ThinkPad notebook secure and operating efficiently without wasting a minute of your time.

Simply press the Blue Button to open a powerful menu of applications and tools such as Away Manager, which allows time consuming and power hungry applications to run automatically while the user is away.

Despite stretching the T60’s display, Lenovo kept the slim, sleek profile common to its business-friendly thin-and-light laptops. The familiar matte-black case measures 14 inches wide, 10 inches deep, and 1.1 inches thick. The ThinkPad Z61m, by comparison, has the same size footprint but is 0.3 inch thicker; the HP Compaq nc8430 is about the same size as the Z61m. At 5.8 pounds, the ThinkPad T60 is certainly the lightest of the three and a full pound lighter than the Z61m, which includes a weighty titanium lid. With its compact AC adapter, the ThinkPad T60 weighs a still-manageable 6.7 pounds.

The build and design of the T60 wide hasn’t changed other than being wider but not as deep (wider and shorter). The build quality is top notch and I refer you to my previous review of the T60 for a more in depth look at this and various other features of the T60 that holds true for the wide and standard screen version. Notice that with the T60 wide the keyboard area obviously has more width. However, Lenovo has not changed the keyboard at all, you only get more space on the sides because of this additional horizontal real estate.

The notebook fits 30 percent more data onscreen than its 14-inch predecessor, the ThinkPad T60. But the ThinkPad T60 Widescreen notebook features more than just a new display; this 5.1-pound notebook also includes a 2.3 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, an estimated six hours of battery life, up to a 160GB hard drive, a choice of integrated Intel graphics or higher-end ATI graphics, and an optional WSXGA+ display.
