This is a very nice looking laptop and the insides are not bad either, the Asus W5FE has a feature that I think will appeal to many of you and the feature goes by the name of SideShow and what that means is that this revolutionary technology means that there is a screen on the outside of the laptop on the lid.

This compact laptop has a 12 inch widescreen display with as said above Side Show which is an external LCD auxiliary display on the cover that offers quick mobility which is easy to get data access. It has a swivel webcam built in and offers a 2 spindle design with card reader slot and yes it has Bluetooth as well.

Asus wins the prize for being the first manufacturer to cook up a laptop design that puts Vista’s SideShow feature to use. The W5Fe SideShow notebook looks like your typical 12.1-inch laptop with one small addition: Embedded in the lid is a 2.8-inch LCD. It’s a full-color screen with a 320×240 resolution that lets you access your data even when the laptop itself is powered down

For a start, the SideShow unit is only independent as long as you’re accessing information from its 1GB of flash memory (which shows up as a separate drive); otherwise, it’ll have to turn the laptop on so as to check the hard-drive. Keeping emails and the calender updated means regularly resuming from standby, which makes me nervous a) for battery life and b) in case you’re running or otherwise moving around a lot and potentially shaking the active hard-drive.

The W5Fe’s auxiliary display is a short cut to viewing a wide range of information, including meeting schedules, phone numbers, addresses, and recent e-mail messages. This comes as a very handy tool when, for instance, one needs to take a quick look at the meeting agenda in a crowded elevator. On the entertainment front, the outer display can be used to view photos, play music and games such as Solitaire. In addition, SideShow can even act as the mobile navigation device and guide the way with map display! To stay on top of the ever fast changing technology world, the W5Fe is definitely the next hot digital gadget that guarantees powerful processing, sleek design, seamless integration and even a quick peek to important data without opening the notebook. Enjoy the new-edge computing with an extra degree of human factor.

Along with SideShow, the 12.1-inch widescreen Asus W5Fe features Intel Core 2 Duo processor, up to 1536MB of DDR2 533/667MHz memory, and up to 160 GB Serial-ATA hard drive. Based on Mobile Intel 945GM Express chipset, the W5Fe incorporates Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection and Intel’s Graphics Media Accelerator 950. This integrated graphics card is capable to run Aero feature in Windows Vista, but you must have enough of main system memory.

The ASUS W5fe SideShow opens up another realm for technology. It’s one less cover to flip open, one less button to press, and plenty of time saved when you’re on the move and you need information fast. There’s a shortage of downloadable gadgets right now, and the technology still needs some fine tuning, but I’m thinking forward. iTunes and Skype, not to mention live TV, games, and movies—the possibilities are endless with SideShow. It’s the perfect companion for busy travelers who don’t have the time to power up their laptop.
