The Asus G1 15.4″ laptop was released at the end if 2006 and recently Asus has updated that model with the Santa Rosa based G1S. This G1S defies traditional categorization since it provides gaming performance while maintaining a mobile capability. Normally gaming notebooks are isolated to larger entertainment style laptops that have low battery life. However, the powerful Asus G1S can provide excellent multimedia and gaming performance while remaining portable with good battery life.

The notebook’s 15.4-inch widescreen 1680×1050 glossy display is managed by GeForce 8600M GT dedicated graphics card with 256MB of VRAM, which is expandable up to 512MB using shared system memory. The 8600M GT graphics is compatible with forthcoming DirectX 10-based games and provides HDCP support. Asus G1S-A1 comes with a 2GB of DDR2 667MHz system RAM, and supports up to 4GB. Along with a 160GB SATA hard drive at 5400rpm rotational speed, this laptop has dual layer DVD burner featuring LightScribe technology. The Asus G1S-A1 is equipped with Intel PM965 chipset paired with the new Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7500 at 2.2GHz

Asus G1S-A1 provides 802.11A/G/N Wireless LAN, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth and a 56k modem, as well as built-in 1.3 megapixels camera and microphone for conferencing and chat. There are also four USB ports, Express card slot, MMC/SD/MS/MS-Pro card reader, Firewire, and eSATA external hard drive port. For audio/video output, the G1S-A1 utilizes HDMI, DVI-D, VGA, and S-Video ports.
