If you’re looking for a performance edge when building your next PC, take note of the Asus P5K3 Deluxe. It’s one of the first motherboards to use Intel’s new P35 Express chipset, which adds support for fast DDR3 memory. Asus is known for performance-oriented board designs and BIOS features, and the P5K3 Deluxe follows that tradition, pushing existing components to new performance levels and supporting Intel’s upcoming 45nm processors.

Supporting Intel’s Core 2 series as well as earlier Socket 775 processors, the board is loaded with two PCI Express (PCIe) graphics slots with ATI CrossFire capability, plus built-in 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and support for up to 10 USB 2.0 ports. Most interesting, however, are the four slots for DDR3 memory. DDR3 offers more bandwidth between the memory and the processor than earlier technologies do. DDR3 RAM can be rated at up to 1,600MHz; DDR2 officially maxes out at 800MHz, although faster overclocked DDR2 modules are available.
