Sharp introduces an innovation in graphics and screen display with the Actuis AL3DU. Equipped with a 15-inch XGA (1024 x 768) TFT 3D LCD display panel that can be switched between 2D and 3D display modes with the touch of a button, making the notebook flexible for use in standard 2D applications such as word processing and e-mail as well as giving extra visualization power for 3D professional applications such as molecular modeling, CAD and medical imaging plus a new way of enjoying games. .

Designed for notebook users who require strong graphics rendering capability, the notebook is easily switched, at the touch of a button, from critical application processing with an Intel Pentium 1.86 processor and 1 GB of DDR2 memory, to complex graphics rending with Sharp’ s 3D display technology and an integrated Nvidia GeForce Go 6600 Graphics Adapter. The AL3DU is also equipped with the latest in networking technology, Gigabit Ethernet, for high speed transfer of large amounts of data.

    Enjoy 3D right away with the included software bundle designed to take advantage of its 3D capability. The Sharp Smart Stereo Photo Editor and Slide Show can be used to create 3D images from 2D photos. Also bundled are the TriDef Movie Player from Dynamic Digital Depth and Personal CACHe for Windows (a chemical molecular modeling application). Finally, a collection of blockbuster 3D movie trailers is also included, with such titles as SOS Planet, Alien Adventure, Haunted Castle and 3D Mania Encounter in the Third Dimension.

    The AL3DU is offered with Microsoft Windows XP Pro and a number of utilities. Specially for 3D users, the AL3DU comes with a TriDef® 3D Demo environment (from DDD, Santa Monica) allowing viewing of 3D movie trailers, ability to view DVD movies in 3D (by real-time 2D to 3D conversion) and other 3D utilities. Also included is a trial version of the Amira 3D Visualization program allowing scientists, medical professionals and physicists 3D manipulation of data from various modeling sources.

    The AL3DU comes with a 3D demo environment allowing users to enjoy 3D photographs, animations and movies. The environment also includes the Tridef® DVD Player which can make an ordinary DVD movie into an exciting 3D movie at the touch of a button. Now your favorite movies can be viewed again in a new dimension! Also included is an evaluation version of the Amira visualization software from Mercury Computer Systems for realistic 3D visualization of 3D models for medicine, biology, physics or engineering. This is a fully functioning 3D application that allows manipulation of 3D data as well as stereoscopic visualization.
