Desk space, something we always want to have a lot of but the more gadgets we get the less space we have. Besides a case your monitor probably takes up the most space on your desk. With 22-inch and 24-inch monitors becoming the standard your desk space really becomes limited. Well ViewSonic wants to help you with that problem with the VX1962wm. This 19-inch display has a native resolution of 1680 x 1050, which is the native resolution of larger 22-inch displays. It also features a 2ms response time, 6000: 1 contrast ratio and a very sleek design. Let’s takes a look!

The panel has a native pixel response of 5 milliseconds (black to white), but you can change that to 3 ms (gray to gray) or 2 ms (gray to gray) using overdrive technology via the OSD. Theoretically, the faster response times help deliver a smoother gaming experience, particularly when it comes to displaying subtle gray shading effects, but I was unable to notice a performance difference while running my F.E.A.R. gaming tests. In each mode, the panel did a good job of handling motion sequences without smearing or ghosting, and game play was smooth.

Setting up the monitor is easy. Simply attach the base to the pedestal arm, lock it in place, and you’re set. The video connectors are easy to attach, as ViewSonic placed the connectors right on the back (a welcome departure from many monitors that have the connectors facing down). Although we appreciated the minimalist design of the front, locating the onscreen display buttons wasn’t easy at first. Plus, the OSD menus take getting used to; when you compare it to Samsung’s new OSD menus, ViewSonic’s are difficult to navigate and seem unpolished. Also, we would have liked a simpler way to adjust the speaker volume, rather than having to drill down a couple menu steps before getting to that function.
