The HP EliteBook 6930p Notebook PC sets a new standard for on-the-move productivity with business ruggedness and a starting weight of only 4.7 pounds. It has been tested at extreme temperatures of 140°F and –20 °F and meets the Military Standard 810F for vibration, dust, humidity, altitude, and high temperature. That gives you the peace of mind to take it anywhere you have to go and know it will perform.

HP is calling the 6930p a "business-rugged" laptop, which means it passes several MIL-STD 810F military standards for dust and high temperatures but not enough military standards for it to be considered semi-rugged or fully rugged. An example of a fully rugged laptop, or a device that is certified for every single MIL-STD 810F test, is the GETAC B300. Being semi-rugged involves passing a subset of the MIL-Spec tests, and business rugged is a loose interpretation of the MIL-SPEC tests.

The EliteBook 6930p uses a 14.1-inch widescreen LCD, and the high-resolution (1440×900 pixels) panel is bright and exceedingly crisp. You can even read tiny on-screen text, although the high resolution means default text sizes on some Web sites and in Windows’ menus (like the All Programs list) can be pretty small. The LCD delivered vibrant colors in Windows apps, as well as good motion reproduction for video

The Elitebook 6930P is exactly what they intended it to be - a sturdy, rugged and portable business notebook. At dimensions of 13.0 x 9.6 x 1.2 inches, it is much more compact than other notebooks of its class, however it is a bit bigger than the Dell Latitude E6400, its main opponent. It weighs about 5.2 pounds which makes it very light and portable compared to others. It features a brushed metal design which is both tough and elegant and exudes a rugged feel. It has a anodized aluminium lid with a magnesium alloy chassis which provide a very strong shell to the notebook. It can easily survive some drops and bumps and emerge unscathed.

Inside, the matte-black, spill-resistant keyboard is offset by a brushed metal deck and upper panel, both of which match the lid. HP’s new DuraKeys feature a fingerprint resistant UV coating that claims to be six times more scratch-resistant than HP’s previous business notebooks. The only design element we found off-putting were the two holes to the left and right of the touchpad, which is where the metal posts for the lid go when the system is closed.
