Build quality is very similar to the previous generation T61, with all of its strengths and weaknesses. Fit and finish are great with most parts, but you still have a good amount of battery wiggle in the back, as well as the cheaper feeling plastic LCD lid. The molded plastic panels throughout the notebook feel sturdy, overall feeling much like the previous generation of notebooks. Compared to the pre-Lenovo Thinkpads, the T500 feels leaps and bounds better. Now the T500 is not without its flaws, and the new keyboard definitely falls into the flaws category.

Lenovo offers currently two different displays for the T500. One is a 1280×800 WXGA panel with LED backlight and the other is a 1680×1050 WSXGA display. The WSXGA panel is clearly superior in terms of working space and resolution, especially when working with several open windows at the same time. The LED panel on the other hand, has higher brightness and better illumination.

Lenovo ThinkPad T500 has two graphics cards. One is integrated and it is a part of Intel GM45 chipset and wears a tag X4500. Performances are better than previous generation (X3100) had but that’s not good enough for any demanding 3D application. Non integrated graphics card is product of Intel’s rival AMD, ATi Radeon HD3650. It is equipped with 512MB DDR3 memory and has quite reliable performances even by hardcore gamers’ standards. Such a high performance graphics card was unexpected but that isn’t something that we will complain about.
