This ultraportable’s dimensions haven’t changed much since the TXN15P or the more recent VAIO VGN-TZ298N. The TT190 measures 10.8 by 7.8 by 1 inches, more compact than the Fujitsu LifeBook P8010 (11.2 by 8.4 by 1.4 inches) but thicker than the Toshiba Portégé R500 (11.1 by 8.5 by 0.7 inches). It’s also thicker than the Apple MacBook Air and the Apple MacBook 13-inch (Aluminum), because it uses a tray-ejecting optical drive rather than a slot-loading one; Blu-ray technology calls for a thicker drive. Like its predecessors, the TT190 weighs an incredible 2.8 pounds, which puts it in an elite group of featherweights with built-in optical drives such as the R500, the P8010, and the Panasonic Toughbook W-Series.

This ultraportable is full of great stuff. And, at 2.8 lbs, you aren’t going to find a notebook lighter and more powerful then the VGN-TT190. I sort of wonder how they packed in an optical drive, 11″ display and wireless support, along with a great processor, into under three pounds. Plus, Blu-Ray! Are you kidding me? And while 11 inches might be small, you can use the HDMI-out port to ship your Blu-Ray movies to a big screen.

The Vaio TT’s 11-inch screen follows the 16:9 aspect-ratio trend we’ve seen in new 16-inch and 18-inch laptops. The 1,366×768 resolution isn’t too far removed from the 1,024×600 found on most Netbooks, but the slightly larger screen size and finer resolution combine for a much larger work (or play) space. And while the 16:9 aspect ratio matches that of movies and HD content, the small screen and resolution doesn’t get you 1080p playback; but the system’s HDMI port will have you viewing at 1080p, with an external display that does 1920×1080.
