Features
Sleek design:
• Our standard series (s-series) notebook PCs deliver refined simplicity in a clean design that offers both function and style. A sleek design with glossy Noir (black) finish lets you stand out from the crowd.
• The new keyboard is made out of single part with keys raised from the surface underneath, leaving fewer places for dirt and dust to settle.
Security – Built to protect:
• HP ensures your information has enhanced protection with a broad range of customizable security solutions such as HP ProtectTools to help protect your data, manage your passwords and secure your system.
• Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools encodes all information on your hard drive so that your sensitive information is unreadable to an unauthorized person if your notebook is lost or stolen.
Enjoy wireless in more places:
• Whether you’re across the street or across the country, HP’s integrated wireless technologies have got you covered. Experience faster connections in more places than ever before and get more done with HP Mobile Broadband powered by Gobi.
Reliability – Built to Last:
• The HP brand means the HP ProBooks are backed by the HP Total Test Process, with over 95,000 hours of quality testing.
• HP 3D DriveGuard helps protect your notebook’s hard drive against impact, bumps, or drops using a three-axis accelerometer, which notifies the system software of any sudden movement and sends a command to temporarily park the hard drive.
Ease of Use – Built to Simplify:
• Our notebooks are designed to help boost your productivity. For example, use HP QuickLook 2 to access email and contact information in seconds without booting up, or HP Fast Charge to recharge up to 90% in 90 minutes when the system is off.
Environmental – Built to Conserve:
• The HP ProBook 4510s Notebook PC reduces its impact on the environment by eliminating or reducing substances of concern and reducing energy consumption, is ENERGY STAR® qualified, and is EPEAT™ Silver registered.

The HP ProBook series joins the award-winning HP EliteBook series to form one of the most versatile business notebook portfolios in the industry. Inspired by minimalism, the design of the new HP ProBook series combines matte and glossy surfaces while stripping out the extraneous, leaving only a stylish and clean look.
Distinguished by a choice of merlot or glossy noir finishes, a unique keyboard design and a set of professional innovations previously found only on higher-priced models, the HP ProBook series delivers HP’s best combination of business features, functionality and value.

The black, glossy top is very similar to the one on the Dell Vostro 1310 and picks up just as many smudges and fingerprints. The tendency to attract smudges also extends into the palm rest area, the touchpad, and the mouse buttons. A better-looking, more smudge-resistant Merlot (dark red) version will be available at a later date, though. The frame is boxy looking, not as curvaceous as the HP Pavilion dv6t (1030us) or the Gateway MD7801u—both consumer laptops in the same price range as the 4510s.

This build is relatively low-powered for a 15.6-inch computer, and while it will satisfy the demands of most business users, some people will want more power. The ProBook can scale considerably and buyers can move up to a 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo processor (or down to a Celeron), add up to 8GB of RAM (you’d want a 64-bit OS with that), and up to a 500GB disk also. Other notable upgrades include a Blu-ray drive, Gobi mobile broadband, and ATI discrete graphics (ATI Mobility Radeon HD430). In keeping with the small business theme there is no SSD option, but the mobile broadband is nice to see.

The 5.7-pound ProBook 4510s won’t win any design awards, but its angular chassis with a lacquered lid (available in black or “merlot”) looks sharp; just be prepared for the fingerprint smudges whenever you touch it. The simple-yet-modern design continues under the lid, where flat-top keys pop out of a glossy backdrop. The large 16-to-9-aspect-ratio screen means there’s room for a dedicated number pad, though the main keyboard’s Function, Ctrl, and Alt keys are truncated to fit. The keyboard is plenty roomy otherwise, and the keys have good tactile and audible feedback without being too noisy when you type on them.

The 3.3 x 1.7-inch touchpad is plenty large, and the rubbery texture provides just the right amount of friction. The touch buttons, meanwhile, feel like trap doors. Instead of being straightforward push buttons, they’re hinged at the top, so only the part closest to the edge of the notebook depresses. To put it another way, it’s kind of like pressing a piano key. We would have preferred traditional buttons.

What really impresses is the spacious keyboard. The cut-out keys create enough of a gap between buttons and HP even manages to fit in a 10-key keyboard without it feeling too squeezed. Also, the final models come with a textured coating that makes the buttons more scratch-resistant. The mouse is slightly off-center and the buttons have a solid, lush feel.
