The ESP 9 includes both Ethernet and Wi-Fi support, so it’s easy to share. It prints and scans over a network as well as a USB connection, and it works as a standalone copier and fax machine. It can also scan to e-mail, by launching an e-mail message on a PC and attaching the scanned document to the message. In addition, a 35-page automatic document feeder (ADF) makes it easy to scan, fax, or e-mail multipage documents as well as legal-size pages.

On the plus side, print quality is decent for black-and-white and color prints. Viewed at large font sizes it’s clear that the printing is not the sharpest ever, but at regular sizes it looks fine and there is no ink bleed into the paper. And the 4×6 photo printed in 46 seconds, which is perfectly reasonable, and gave a print with excellent, sharp colors. I used the included Kodak paper and it was smudge-free right out of the printer.
