The MSI Wind CS120 is based around the Intel Atom mobile internet device processors. Rather than using the much more common N270 version, MSI has elected to use the slower N230. This gives the system a bit of a performance disadvantage compared to nettop PCs using the faster N270. Of course, the processor is already severely limited compared to traditional desktop processors. It should be able to handle standard internet browsing and productivity software without issue. Some multimedia applications may suffer though.

The CS120 is a quiet PC. After a quick burst of noise from the cooling fan when you power the system, the fan slows down and remains quiet while you use the system. The Atom 230 processor, which is designed for low-power usage and light-duty tasks, is rated for 4W TDP (Thermal Design Power). This means that the CPU itself uses only a few watts for most of the time it’s powered on. The CS120 uses about 29W when idle and about 34W when running benchmark tests, so it’s energy efficient. However, it uses a bit more power than the ASUS Eee Box nettop, which consumed 16W while idle and 18W when in action. The Eee Box has a more energy-efficient notebook-class drive and no optical drive, which explains the lower power usage.
