The Dell Inspiron Mini 9 was developed from the ground up to be the perfect companion, keeping you connected while on-the-go.

“Solid” storage: We’ve outfitted the Inspiron Mini 9 with ruggedized solid state drives that are whisper quiet, power friendly, and durable.

Keep your files online! We’ve partnered with Box.net to provide 2GB of free internet storage for every Inspiron Mini 9 customer. Store, access, collaborate, and share any type of file through a secure, simple, and intuitive web browser experience. Plus, upgrade to larger accounts to store more files.

Long battery life: No need to sacrifice weight for battery life. The Inspiron Mini 9 provides over 4 hours of battery life while keeping the weight of the system under 2.3 pounds.

image Mobile Entertainment:

The Inspiron Mini 9 is designed to keep you connected to your favorite entertainment. When you are on the go, you can still have access to email, shopping, and more. A bright 8.9-inch glossy LED display (1024×600) presents most websites without a lot of left-right scrolling, and the keypads are large and easy to navigate.

The Mini 9 features a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, either 512MB or 1GB of RAM, either a 4, 8 or 16GB SSD, a 4-cell battery, and the 8.9-inch display with a 1024 x 600 resolution. Additionally the Mini 9 comes in either Obsidian Black or Alpine White, but sadly the white costs an extra $25. Finally users will have the option of either running a Dell customized Ubuntu 8.04 or Windows XP as their operating system of choice.

A 8.9-inch glossy LED display (1024×600) presents most web pages with no left-right scrolling, and the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 comes standard with Wi-Fi connectivity. A built-in Webcam is upgradeable from 0.3 to 1.3 Megapixels, and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity can be included in the final configuration.

It’s called the Inspiron Mini 9 and it’s Dell’s entry into the netbook market. Make no mistake, ASUS was the driving force behind the Inspiron Mini 9. Even the naming is ASUS-inspired (the Inspiron Mini 910 vs. the Eee PC 901?). Despite ASUS’ head start, Dell had the luxury of watching from a distance and improving where ASUS had failed to make enough changes.

It’s no surprise that Dell settled on Intel’s N270 1.6GHz Atom processor as the Mini 9’s powerplant – the N270 is the engine of choice for most netbooks. It’s paired with 1GB of RAM, which the upgrade set will be pleased to hear is fitted as a single stick into an easily accessible DIMM slot. That combo of processor and RAM puts a surprising amount of pep into Windows XP and the most common day-to-day productivity and multimedia applications.

The design of the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 is quite similar to other netbooks we’ve seen in recent months. The exterior is covered in glossy plastics with smooth lines, rounded edges, and a style that looks like it’s trying to strike a balance between “fun” and “functional.” The look is pretty basic, almost like a miniature version of the Inspiron 1525 notebook. Glossy plastic is found on the top of the screen cover as well as around the entire LCD and palm rests. Matte black plastic is used on the base of the netbook and on the keyboard. Overall, the look is quite nice, but the glossy LCD lid is a magnet for fingerprints and makes the new netbook look a little tarnished after just a few minutes of use.
