The CPU in the LX6200-01 is AMD’s 2.2GHz Phenom X4 9500, which is paired with a super-healthy 8GB of RAM. Despite the four processing cores, all that memory, and the 64-bit version of Windows Vista Home Premium, the system’s performance left something to be desired in nearly every area we tested, especially when compared to the DX4710-05, which is powered by a faster Core 2 Quad CPU but less RAM (6GB). The LX6200-01′s score of 6,577 in the 64-bit version of our Cinebench 10 rendering benchmark was well below the DX4710-05′s 9,478; the LX6200-01 needed over a minute more than the other PC to process a video in Windows Media Encoder 9 (5 minutes and 14 seconds versus 4 minutes and 8 seconds); and it took 5 minutes to complete our iTunes conversion trial, whereas the DX4710-05 polished it off in 4 minutes and 11 seconds.

For multimedia, particularly photo editing, the LX6200 is a little disappointing. It took 1 minute 8 seconds to finish the Windows Media Encoder (WME) test, and an overly long 1:10 to finish the Photoshop test. I would categorize both scores as adequate, but any desktop with an Intel Core 2 Quad processor will do better. Such systems regularly score at or under 30 seconds at Photoshop and under one minute for WME. Actually, some Intel Core 2 Duo dual-core systems will outpace the LX6200 at some tasks. For example, the dual-core Sony VAIO VGC-JS130J/P is faster at Photoshop (36 seconds).

The ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 3200, equipped with 40 stream processors and an advanced 3D engine, provides support for hybrid graphics when paired with this system’s Windows Vista®—meaning dramatically improved performance. If you want to add a gaming card this baby is ready with a 400 watt power supply. Last, but not least, it has 2 hot-swap SATA bays accessible from the front so you can easily carry files and do backups! You will be blown away when you crank it up and see how fast it does everything. Don’t miss this deal.
