The 26-inch (25.5-inch viewable) VMM26 monitor from Vizio goes a long way toward helping the company break from its budget-display mold. Its glossy glass screen, hidden touch-sensitive controls, and fully adjustable stand crafted from a single piece of steel make this (1,920×1,200) monitor reminiscent of Apple’s slick designs, and its $429 (list) price certainly is enticing. But in testing, this monitor had some problems reproducing both extremes of the gray scale. And while the screen looks stunning at first, close inspection of our test unit revealed at least two dead pixels as well as several tiny cracks or imperfections in the glass screen. These issues might not be endemic to the entire product run, but they do betray Vizio’s budget roots.

The Vizio VMM26 LCD is balanced on a stand at a height of 4†from the ground. This stand is detachable and the LCD can be mounted on the wall too. Four USB inputs and outputs have been integrated into this model. All USB devices including a digital camera can be connected through these ports. Downloading favorite photographs can be done easily now. A HD game port including HDMI is present at the side which allows gaming consoles to be connected. A headphone jack aids game play too.
